Note Card Confessional
Quotes used/referenced:
1. It is important to find "moral and ethical questions that are truly meaningful to young people who are learning to balance their natural idealism with a deeper understanding of social and institutional power as well as the complexities of human nature" (Hobbs p. 37).
2. "With so many sources of information available, assessing credibility is difficult. That's because with no editorial gatekeeper, the content available on the Internet often blurs the lines between amateur and professional, entertainment and marketing, and information and persuasion" (Hobbs p. 42)
3. "People trust the sources that match our existing opinions and we distrust information that challenges our beliefs. Awareness of this tendency can help people become more open and receptive to diverse sources and points of view" (Hobbs p. 43).

I loved how you personalized your notecards and felt they went perfectly with you shooting your video outside! Your music choice was also perfect with the setting. I agree with you about finding moral and ethical questions. I feel this is an important part of assessment and making sure we are asking meaningful questions.
ReplyDeleteI like how you decided to change it up and create your video outdoors!
ReplyDeleteI also used the second quote that you used in your video-it had a lot of meaning. Also, I like the way you asked the rhetorical "Why?" in between your quotes, and then proceeded to answer the question with a following quote.
I agree that quality and reliability of sources is very important for students today. There are so many unreliable sources at the hands of students, which results in them having false information.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you made your video more personal. I felt like I learned some about the text, but also about you as an educator. Thank you for an awesome piece!
ReplyDeleteI love that you made your video outside. I really liked your last quote. I feel that if students are more open about the sources then it will be more beneficial to them and us as educators.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job- loved that it was outside and that the cards were personalized. I love your quotes you choose as well. I like that you want students to ask questions about media sources.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I saw the outdoors and I thought your video would be a free and lighthearted. Then I remembered to put my headphones on, and the music then turned the scene into a more serious setting. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI used the same third quote as you! I think it is the main idea that I work with concerning critical media literacy; being able to critical evaluate media is a goal to work towards, however in order to effectively analyze media one must open themselves to altering ideas and viewpoints. Excellent video!
