PSA

My PSA is directed at anyone linked into social media and their mobile devices.  I created my PSA to highlight ways our phones are taking over our lives and our senses of self-worth.  I focused on statistics and facts on social media and the negative impact these sites are having on our lives.  My images and information are very straight forward and leave no hidden interpretations.  I decided to record my voice throughout because I feel it is a good pull for audiences that tend to be lazy and don't want to read.  Listening is much easier, so audio is very powerful in this case where I want to influence change and reflection in my audience.

  1. Your PSA reminds me of Gary Turk's "Look Up." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7dLU6fk9QY

I actually broke my addiction when my phone became to irritating to use. I accidentally dropped my phone down the stairs at the hotel when I was working the 2 week long BSA Jamboree. After I got the screen fixed, a couple of days later I dropped my phone in the toilet. The screen was a mess, it dried up but I had 4 screens at once. So I bought a iPhone 5S and had it for 1.5 months before I washed it by accident. Guess what! A Life Proof case isn't guaranteed if you put it in the washer. So I went back to my 4 screened iPhone 4. The digitizer is messed up and nothing is where it looks like it is. The bad part is my friends make fun of me because the screen flashes and is all over the place which is not real conducive for a healthy environment around my epilepsy. I do have to laugh. They may be right.
At this point, not having a functioning phone means that I can't surf the Internet when out. Well I could, I just wouldn't be able to see what page it is on. I notice I don't really miss it. Maybe in the beginning but it does hurt my feelings when my husband spends all his time on his phone instead of looking at me. There is definitely a time and a place.
Good points and thanks for the statistics.

  2. Laura you slogan is so powerful! It is very catching, as it even caught my husbands attention who was sitting on the couch across the room. I feel people don’t see this as an addition but wonder when their will be rehab clinics for social media. Well actually I just did a quick search and we do have a Rehab Center that is working with Internet addiction:

Until our society see this as a problem, unfortunately I don’t think anything will or can change.

  3. I like the topic you have chosen for your PSA. Our society is being ran by social media. I feel this issue will never change because they are advancing phones, computers, ipads, etc, everyday so that all social media can be reached through every piece of technology available. Your PSA was very eye catching. I like that you used statistics but then also read it aloud as well.

  4. Laura, you've done a great job with this PSA. I really like the array of powerful images you use to convey your point. Using images equating social media to hard drugs is very powerful. I can see this grabbing the attention of young people. You did a great job with the voice over. Your voice is loud and clear, and you speak so that listeners can follow and understand. I also like that you use both text and voice over throughout the PSA. Thank you for sharing!
