I grew up in Romney, WV. I currently live in Fairmont and teach Art full time at South Middle School in Morgantown. I am motivated to learn interesting ways to connect technology in my classroom and also work cross curricularly in my lessons more effectively. I have declared digital Media, New Literacies and Learning as my degree program because I feel it is the area that will benefit me most in the future. I have 9 credits towards my Graduate degree. I have taken EDUC 6301 & 6305 and ONLR 6802.

JOKE: "It's called reading. It's how people install new software into their brains."
Laura,
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic that you teach art and I feel the same way that you do about being able to incorporate more effective technology into our classrooms to help keep students engaged. By the way, I love you literacy joke!
Thanks for commenting! I look forward to reading your posts as well. Cute pup!
DeleteLaura, I love the literacy joke! I also really like your teaching quote in your "About Me" section. I look forward to a really excellent summer class with you.
ReplyDeleteSame here Jaime, thanks!
DeleteLaura, wonderfully insightful. I bet you are a great teacher. As I move back into the classroom this fall, I can already tell that I am going to learn alot from all my fellow classmates. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce! I try my best. I am wrapping up my third year of teaching, so I am still no expert, but I do have my opinions and like to share.
DeleteHi Laura! Welcome! Looking forward to seeing an artistic take on digital media! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will give it my best! I have a lot of opinions to share and look forward to reading your blog as well.
DeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to 6809! I am interested to see what your thoughts are regarding incorporation of technology in art classes. Have a great summer!
So far I use a computer projector frequently, an old transparency projector for demonstrations of techniques on occasion, and that is about it. I wish I could have a lab of iPads or computers with digital editing stylus equipment, but unfortunately, my school is not yet progressed that far. A smart board down the line would be excellent! Once can dream!
DeleteHi Laura. My best friend, Rachel Sherry, teaches at South Middle (maybe, I am now not sure because she has only been in Mon County for one year). My nephew teaches art at West Fairmont Middle and my cousin teaches art at East Fairmont Jr High! I love the creativity of art teachers and steal a lot of their ideas!! Good luck this summer!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know Rachel Sherry. She and I are newbies at South this year. What are the names of your nephew and cousin - perhaps I know them? Stealing/Borrowing ideas is awesome, I do it frequently.
DeleteJason Jaros is my nephew and Misty Skarzenski is my cousin. They have been in Marion County though but my niece and nephew have a camp in Romney (her maiden name was Oliver). I steal all of Rachel's ideas. She has more teaching experiences and state awards than I could ever list and I HATED when she left Marion County!!! I miss her but of course she is my BFF so we talk every day :)
DeleteLaura-
ReplyDeleteI am from Petersburg, WV so our hometowns are not too far apart! I have a grandfather that lives in Romney so I know that area fairly well! Anyways, I am also very interested in how to properly and effectively incorporate technology in my classroom! Good luck this semester!
Also, one of my good friends from college is from Romney...Julie Ritz!
DeleteNice to meet you! I lived in Morgantown and attended WVU from 2004-2006 but wasn't familiar with any of the schools there other than WVU. I'm not at all artistic but I try to be creative to make up for it! I just recently graduated with my master's degree from Fairmont State University on May 10th, but would also like to learn ways to integrate technology into my teaching and daily lessons.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI really like your joke. It's so funny how students relate everything to technology and computers that they think of reading as something computer programmed. I'm always fascinated by student work in art classes. What types of fun projects do you have your students do? I'm a math teacher and I LOVE to incorporate art and math to get kids excited and get them to see that math is present in everyday instances such as stained glass windows or road maps. Good luck this semester and in your future classes.
Laura,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! I am not artistic the least little bit so I envy those who are. I do try my best to be creative to make up for my non-artistic abilities though. I attended WVU from 2004-2006 and lived in Morgantown so I'm familiar with the area, but not any of the local schools. I am also interested in new ways to incorporate technology in my classroom when teaching. I hope you have a great semester!
Howdy, I am also in Digital Media. I will be looking forward to hearing how this degree will work with your career teaching Art!
